BBL08 Game 52: Hobart Hurricanes v Melbourne Renegades

Posted Thu 07 February by Extra Cover

No Short, no Wade, no Finch, no Harris – we’re going completely left field today hoping for early wickets on what has been a batsman-friendly pitch.

The Re-cap

We’re refreshed and ready to roll after three glorious days of no BBL. Cashed one from two last Sunday but still a little bit back from where we need to be to finish the season nice and strong. Tonight’s the night!

Likely XI’s

Game 52: Hurricanes v Renegades @ Bellerive Oval

Hurricanes – Short, Wade, Jewel, McDermott, Bailey, Milenko, Archer, Ahmed, Rose, Meredith, Moody, (Doolan, Rogers)

  • Afghani leggy Qais Ahmed comes into the Hurricanes squad and will play. Meredith returns and will play. Out goes Faulkner (rested) and Freeman. Think they can carry both Rose and Moody here with Milenko and Short both capable of bowling overs if needed.

Renegades – Harris, Finch, Harper, Cooper, Nabi, Harvey, Christian, Boyce, Tremain, Richardson, Gurney (Wildermuth, Holland)

  • With Boyce playing so well they don’t really need a seventh bat but I think they will carrying Harvey just for his fielding alone and he will slide down the order as the game dictates.

Selection Committee

No Short, no Wade, no Finch, no Harris – we’re going completely left field today, assuming both teams suffer early wickets which is a strategy that will be heavily against what the field does so if it comes up we could be right up the pointy end. Spin to win in the bowling department starting with new T20 all-rounder extraordinaire Cam Boyce who also plays his revenge game at what I hope will be super low ownership at that inflated price tag. New international Qais Ahmed goes straight in as well and whilst Tremain will be highly owned, I think he can take some wickets on this deck. I like the idea of taking the middle order for the Hurricanes and the lower order for the Renegades, players like Nabi and Christian could also be low-owned as teams look to shoehorn Short into their sides.

Team: McDermott, Nabi, Christian, Jewell, Ahmed, Boyce, Tremain

Final Thoughts

Got to be brave in games like this with so many stars and a pretty tight salary cap. Hobart has been a bit of a runs fest this season so if early wickets fall for both sides and all four openers go cheaply, this team will be right up the pointy end. There is rain around in Tassie today so as a final note to coaches, make sure you are watching the radar to see if overs will be impacted by rain.
